Q. How do I maximize my training with Speed T& F?
A. Don't miss a practice, especially Saturday mornings, that's the day we put it all together.
A. Do your homework assignments. You receive your workouts on Sundays for the whole week, there is no reason that you should not know what to do and then get it done.
A. Journal everything; nutrition, strength, workouts etc.
Q. My student athlete is currently involved in other sports or activities. Should he/she try and "fit in" the homework assignments?
A. No, this may lead to overtraining. Make good decisions, only you know what you can do
Q. Why aren't the athletes doing more running in practice?
A. It is important not to reinforce bad mechanics! Most athletes have never been instructed on proper form and technique. It is important not to put the cart before the horse. Proper angle and degrees are critical to performance and will help minimize injury.
Q. What are the drills for?
A. To help develop the nervous system. The skills and drill sets your athletes perform are part of the active warm up sequence and also extend into what they will do while competing. In the end the athlete will have better economy of his her energy while racing.
Q. My athlete doesn't quite get it. How long will it take?
A. Be patient, it takes time.
Q. Why is there so much repetition in this program?
A. It may take up to 300 repetitions to ingrain the proper sequence for some athletes. Many athletes have had poor running mechanics for years and it can take several hundred repetitions to "fix' them.
Q. It gets dark to soon and it's freezing outside, how am I going to get my workouts done?
A. Be creative! Treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes and other types of equipment will help you meet your aerobic requirements.
Q. Why is the Saturday practice so early? It seems like they are practicing in their sleep!
A. Exactly. The structure of this program is designed so that an athlete is able to perform under all circumstances. If an athlete has to "think" about it…it's too late. They have already lost the competition.
Q. Does My athlete have to compete?
A. No
Q. Does My athlete have to wear a team uniform?
A. No
Q. How do I know what races/events they should participate in?
A. The first meet or so, the choice is theirs; the indoor season can be very intimidating. Soon I will offer suggestions on what's best.
